The versatile musician/singer Sonu Nigam has impressed everyone by his composition of ICC worldcup sportsmanship song "Let's go for the glory". Now Hindi Film Industry (guys don't call it bollywood we shouldn't be copy-cat We have a better name i.e. HiFI as Salman Khan suggested) wants him to do compose music for their movies.I want Abhijeet Sawant to Sing
Recently at the conference of X-Factor he gave the hint of his jump into the field of Music-Composition. He also said there that he would like Abhijeet Sawant to sing as his voice is very contemporary today's voice.
This time he is not going to make him sing but in future when he feels right hope will make him sing.
Sonu Nigam as a Music Composer so far
He has composed music for his album in the past like:
- Chanda ki Doli
- Tu Kab Ye Janegi
- Mumbai Anthem
- Let's go for the Glory
but this is the first time that he is going to compose music for a Hindi Film.
Sonu Nigam reveals that it was the famous tabla and percussionist maestro Bickram Ghosh, who roped him to compose the music for the Girish Malik-directed film Jal, which is based on the lives of people living in the Kutch desert.
"Girish was running across a few ideas with me to act in his film Jal. As we discussed the music, he made me hear his idea of music that included a piece done by Bickram, who is currently working on a world music album with me,” informs the singer. “It was actually Bickrambhai who proposed that I compose the music for Jal with him and I loved the idea,” adds Sonu excitedly. Singer Shubha Mudgal will be singing on their first song tomorrow.
Apparently, working on ‘Jal’ as music composers was Bickram’s idea. Bickram Ghosh said
Girish had asked me to compose the music for the film. And as the project moved forward, I thought it would be wonderful to involve Sonu and work on the music together. Besides the fact that he is a mindblowing singer , he is amazingly versatile with melodies and lyrics... We are very comfortable working with eachother and there is a mutual honesty towards music that bonds us" Bickram says. “The title song is a unique composition, for which we have used some haunting ragas like Marwa and Puriya combined with rare musical instruments like the Armenian duduk.
The film revolves around the scarcity of water and the resultant problems in Kutch. The newly formed composer-duo will record the film’s title song with the legendary Shubha Mudgal soon. And interestingly, The mult-faceted artist Sonu Nigam has also written the lyrics of the song. In fact, he has displayed his command over the written word with the first line of the song, deftly playing on the word 'jal (water) - Jalde, jalde, jaldi jalde, jalne na de, jal hi jal de'!
But while Nigam did take up the offer to compose music, he turned down the director’s request to act in the film, though the reasons are not clear yet. But a surprise cameo cannot be ruled out completely either, as the film-maker was rather keen to have Nigam on board as an actor too.
